This is the third release by [ 1099 ] conveniently titled over the band name itself. [ 1099 ] is an odd 73-minutes of inspirations that is originally intended to portrait as a longer collection. And by the looks and sound of this release it seems that [ 1099 ] had to console themselves with this stretched out and expanded version which by the way is definitely an absolute bonus. The guitar led epic soundscapes, distant saxophone ( on the opening track ), beating drums, joyful strings and smooth keys, all works extremely well together.
This particular cover contains tracks that breaches the usual 10 and 19 minutes length symbolizing 1099 impelling reminiscent of [ Maybeshewill ], [ Mogwai ], [ Crippled Black Phoenix ] and the likes. Above all… the most interesting part of this 03rd release by [ 1099 ] is that it brings together the two core surface of experimental post-rock. One side is being the noise and distorted atmosphere with shimmering guitars and massive wah wah energetically bursting in the air with angst and agonies while still being very accessible and easy to digest on the first listen itself and the other side is a strong cinematic built-up with experimental and repetitive tunes. Typically I’m saying your old fashion type of post-rock music’s.
All said, make no mistake though… let it be the distorted noise side of the album or the cinematic / experimental built-up side of the cover, this 73-minutes album is best listen from the start till the end and trust me when I quote the following line. ( this self-title album WON’T leave you disappointed ). So by all means do what you got to do here but hurry as the BandCamp download limitation will be exhausted in no time on this one. Don’t miss it guys and embrace yourself for an outstanding beautiful play.
